IRNA - Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of State Agency for Religious Affairs of Georgia Zaza Vashakmadze said on Thursday that terrorism has nothing to do with Islam.
He made the remarks in a meeting with Javad Shahrestani, visiting envoy of grand cleric Ayatollah Sistani.
During the meeting in Tbilisi, the official called for dialogue between religions, adding that followers of all faiths in Georgia are living in peace.
Shahrestani for his part praised Georgian government's support for peaceful co-existence of Muslims and followers of other religions there.
Emergence of Takfiri groups in Iraq destabilized the country and provoked division among followers of various faiths in Iraq, he noted.
Shahrestani added that unfortunately, western media make no distinction between Takfiri groups and real Muslims.
Shahrestani went to Tbilisi to meet with the country's officials and visit its religious centers during his one-week stay there.
