His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to attend the Final of the National Quran Reading Competition for Adults 1437 Hijrah/2016.
Upon arrival at the International Convention Centre in Berakas, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Final of the National Quran Reading Competition for Adults 1437 Hijrah/2016 and other committee members.
Also present were His Majesty's sons and brothers, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.
The ceremony began with the Al Quran-reading presentation by Syeikh Dr. Ustaz Abdel Fattah Ali Abdel Fattah Darwisy Al-Tharaty, Chief Imam at the Ministry of Awqaf, Egypt.
The Minister of Religious Affairs in his welcoming address among others spoke of the country's preparations for the International Al-Quran Musabaqah to be held next month.
Awangku Muhamad Adibul Amin bin Pengiran Haji Marjuki was announced the Qari Champion. Aged 28, Awangku Mohd Adibul Amin has won similar titles in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
Meanwhile, the Qariah Champion was Dayang Siti Huzaimah Yadey binti Haji Rosli. Aged 40, Dayang Siti Huzaimah Yadey won third place at the International Tilawah Al-Quran in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2014 and had represented Brunei Darussalam for the competition in 2005.
His Majesty then presented the prizes to the winners. Both the champions, each received the Challenge trophy, a cash prize of $7,000.00, prize and a certificate. In the Qari category, Awang Mohammad bin Ali was in second place, and Awang Mohamad Zul-Hafiz bin Awang Tengah was in third place. Meanwhile, Dayang Hajah Nurfaezah binti Haji Emran and Dayang Hajah Nurul Akmalina binti Haji Yahya were in second and third place respectively in the Qariah category. First runner-up received $5,000.00 cash, prizes and a certificate. While second runner-up received $3,000.00, prizes and a certificate. The champions will represent Brunei Darussalam at the International Quran-reading Competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia which will be held from the 2nd until 7th of next month.
His Majesty also presented souvenirs to the Jury of the competition.
To bless the ceremony, Doa Selamat was read by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in his previous titah stressed that reading the Al-Quran solely in the name of Allah the Almighty induces a sense of peacefulness and happiness. His Majesty said special rewards will be given to those reading the Al-Quran, as it is the remedy for all types of illness. This is in line with this year's Musabaqah theme 'Al-Quran Penawar dan Ubat bagi Rohani dan Jasmani' or "Al-Quran as a Cure and Remedy for the Spiritual and Physical."
